A Solidarity Race in Casablanca
Over the weekend, the NGO Tibu Africa organized a solidarity race in the historic Ain Sebâa district of Casablanca, with the aim of promoting the empowerment of girls and women through sports.
This 5 km race is one of the components of the innovative and pioneering project on the African continent, the “Girls CAN Initiative,” as stated by the NGO in a press release.
The organization explained that the goal of this race is to bring together stakeholders from all sectors around a common cause: supporting and providing assistance to girls and women in their various social inclusion projects.
As we approach the celebration of International Women’s Rights Day, it is always important to emphasize the crucial role of mothers, sisters, colleagues, wives, young women, and girls in our society,” said the president of Tibu Africa, as quoted in the press release. According to him, this race, which is not just a sporting event, “is, in fact, a manifestation of advocacy for the consideration, by all relevant actors, of the specific needs of women for suitable empowerment and social inclusion. Through this concrete action, Tibu Africa places special emphasis on the very foundation of social sustainability: women.” On this occasion, a village of initiatives highlighting the contribution of sports to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 5, “Gender Equality,” is open to the public throughout the day. The village also features fun activities related to health and well-being, creativity, and showcases various TIBU Africa initiatives on education, empowerment, and socio-economic integration through sports.
The “Girls CAN” initiative aims to place women at the center of social inclusion concerns through the empowerment of girls and women through sports. It also aims to rally stakeholders, reminding them of their essential role in the development and empowerment of girls and women.
